Marilyn Artis Marilyn is a marketing
management specialist. She's a successful entrepreneur, a writer, a motivational
speaker, special events producer, and a Fashion consultant. A fashionable, dynamic and personable businesswoman who dreams of one day hosting a television talk show, Artis is a whirlwind of activity, creating and producing unique events that capture the attention of special audiences-from high schoolers to grandparents. As the Founder and President of For the People (FTP) Productions, Marilyn utilizes her extensive and wide-ranging expertise to offer services that include target market management, the implementation and promotion of community outreach campaigns, and teen motivational programs. Currently, FTP produces the annual Golden Image Awards (New York's only beauty pageant for senior women); Maturian Day (an information fair for seniors); Keeping Prom Night Right (informative workshops, lectures and fashion consultation services that help high school students enjoy their special night); and most recently www.heymarilyn.com (a web site committed to providing 24-hour advice and helpful information to teens). Artis also writes a weekly advice column for the Queens Courier newspaper, in which she answers questions and addresses issues that are important to teen readers. "Hey Marilyn!", the endearing moniker by which Artis is known, is highly sought after by schools, corporations and organizations for her motivational, informative and dynamic speeches and programs. A three-inch stack of "thank you" letters from students, principals, business executives and community leaders attest to the impact Artis makes - and spectacular reception she invokes-with her presentations. A graduate of Andrew Jackson High School in Queens, Artis spent the following decade compiling a resume filled with a wide variety of work experience-from a special service agent for Eastern Airlines to an account executive for WWRL radio -and formal education that included a completed course at the Ophelia Devore School of Beauty, to stints at Hostos Community College and York College. In 1987, the entrepreneurial
bug first took a bite out of the energetic young woman as she launched
"Artis Connection," a profitable, exclusive wholesale clothing
and accessories boutique that also provided personal shopping services
for clients. Handling the pressures and challenges of running her own
business-and taking Over the years, Artis
has garnered numerous awards and citations, including a Proclamation from
Office of Manhattan Borough President Ruth Messinger; The National Council
of Negro Women Community Award; a Citation for Keeping Prom Night Right
from the Office of the Hudson County (NY) Executive; an Appreciation Artis currently resides in Queens, New York. To keep herself focused, she spends quality time with a close-knit family. As one of 11 children, she credits her parents for providing inspiration to continue her achievements. She is an active member of the Allen AME Church in Jamaica, serving in the church's Shepherd Ministry. And avid traveler and self-described "networking queen," Artis also enjoys bowling and golf.
